Arequipa & Colca Canyon

What a lovely place to be! Located in the Andes, the city is surrounded by various Volcanoes and a great starting point for various treks.

The “White City” is built out of white volcanic stone.

Gulliver Expeditions organized me a three day trek with amazing people to the Colca Canyon.

Huge condors, steep trails, volcanoes, waterfalls, and hot springs make the Colca Canyon a top outdoor adventure destination in Peru.

The company picked me up early in the hostel and before I was awake I was surrounded by nature: Condors were circling over my head and wild Alpacas chilled everywhere in the mountains.

The cutest animals alive: baby alpakas

The biggest birds in the world: condors (hopefully they don’t eat the baby alpaca)

After the Condor Watching Spot we started our trek down to the Colca River. Walking three hours down in the sun in combination with the altitude introduced me to my new best friend in the mountains: Coca Leaves. Well, you will get used to the taste after a while 😉

The next two days I spent completely in the nature: Far away from Wifi, hot showers or phone calls I could completely relax and enjoy the second deepest canyon in the world.

Colca Canyon.

The last day was the hardest day in the journey: At 4am we started trekking uphill for approximately 3 hours to reach the top of the Canyon before sunrise. In total around 1000 meters uphill – it was quite good to do that part before I was awake, otherwise I would have thought about that too much. After breakfast we could enjoy hot springs, could observe more alpacas, vicunas and llamas and head back to Arequipa.
